Bonuses, Flights and Umrah Packages for the Athletes

Petaling Jaya: Abdul Latif Romly and Ziyad Zolkefli receive RM20,000 extra as a bonus for beating world record at the Paralympic Games in Rio.

This adds to the RM1mil reward they receive for their historic feats in the incentive system Sports Council (NSC).

These athletes have the same benefits as their peers with disabilities through the revised regime.

Ziyad improved the world record twice on his way to winning the men putt F20 launch event (intellectual disabilities) Monday.

Mohd Ridzuan Mohd Puzi has previously claimed the first gold medal Paralympic nation in men T36 (cerebral palsy) final 100 meters.

On Sunday, Abdul Latif has completed the distance of three gold for Malaysia in athletics. The 19-year-old broke the world record three times on his way to winning T20 (intellectual disability) in men long final jump.

To win the gold, the trio each receive RM5,000 monthly allowance.

AirAsia CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said all Asian athletes who won medals would be entitled to free flights of the airline - like their peers with disabilities.

Fernandes said the Paralympics had shown him "that the determination is."

"Thank you, boys and girls, to give us all the spirit of never giving up despite all the obstacles we face," he posted on Instagram yesterday.

He added that all gold medalists were entitled to free flights for life while silver and bronze obtain free flights for five and three years respectively.

"For all Paralympians sacrifices Malaysia have done, all the difficulties, training hours and now victory, we are pleased to honour our heroes with an All-Inclusive Umrah Package and Non-Shifting Hajj Packages pilgrimage with their parents," said Group CEO DRB-Hicom Bhd Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Albar said in a statement.
